Solo exhibition of Fumi Abe -Drawings of Heartstrings- will be held at Gallery Hirota Fine Art from August 23 (Fri) ~ September 7 (Sat).
This will be her first solo exhibition in this 4 years.

In this exhibition, which is based on the theme of "heartstrings" that lies deeper and more abstract than the theme of "face" which she has had for the long time, she will present a new work consisting of two works drawn under the titles "Drawing of Skin" and "Breathing in Water".

In her new work, she has repeated the act of drawing lines and erasing them on paper countless times until she knew the art work is done, using not only pencils but also colored pencils, pastels, and watercolors, etc.. Depiction of her artwork expresses a different space with a gentle depth, and it seems to reflect the spiritual heartstrings that she holds.
The idea of "to seek what heartstrings are" seems to have existed in her work for many years, and there are countless lines that only she can draw in her style, which is different from her previous motifs.
We would like you to take a look at her new work, which she has produced while she faced herself, thought thoroughly with honesty, by drawing her lines unceasingly.
We will be exhibiting about 15 selected works from about 50 works she has created.

At the same time as the solo exhibition, we will be selling a new catalogue "Fumi Abe" that summarizes her art works so far.
It will be sold at our gallery and our online store.

There is a phrase, "touches the heartstrings".
I am interested in the existence of a part called "heartstrings".
What do heartstrings look like?
According to the dictionary, heartstrings is a string of koto (Japanese harp), or a figurative expressions of true feelings hidden in the depths of the human heart.
Is it like a pleat folded in layers?
Or is it like a taut string...
What it would be like if I were to give shape to the ""heartstrings""?
What kind of lines would it be expressed by?
And what kind of artwork would be created? I have been thinking about it for so long.
This is a theme that I have been challenging for the past 20 years,
and my previous artworks also shares the mutual theme.

Under the theme of "drawing heartstrings", this exhibition consists of two group of artworks,"Drawing of Skin" and "Breathing in Water".
