Heihachiro Fukuda, a Japanese painter, is best known for his work entitled "Ren. The present work is a homage to this work. I have always loved Heihachiro's works, not only "Ren," and wondered if I could incorporate some of his elements into my own work. Heihachiro's "Ren" is very simple in its elements, but I am impressed by its bold composition and the attention to detail in the materials used. I wanted to express the shimmering waves in a series of works this time, so I created four works of the same size. I usually use only black as a base color, but this time I attempted to create complexity by layering multiple colors as if I were polishing lacquer.
